Keaton Beach Fishing report August 7-8
Rain, Rain go away come again... next year? Tough to catch trout with the sun in ....they just don't respond well to live pinfish when they can't see them?
Well, we got wet and beat pretty much Saturday with few trout and a few short reds before the storms caught us and wet us. First folks I wet this year. Sorry I don't have much of a report except to say that the w-i-n-d is forecast to blow all week and will help the trout fishing, if the sun is out, otherwise this is a tough time to catch them if it's overcast. Oh yeah, we ambushed a school of Yellowtail jacks( Jack Crevalle) to 8-9 pounds earlier in the day but there were no other species mixed in them when they jumped the ballyhoo.Fun to catch not to keep though.
I am still fishing live pinfish under Back Bays in 6.5' on the incoming tide with a stiff breeze. I am using a 48" leader under my Thunders and advise you use a longer leader, too, to get results.
Will hope to have a better report next week .

Keaton Beach Fishing Report 7/31-8/1 2015

Trout Fishing is tougher than usual as we have had little breeze this week and yet we have caught some nice trout over 20" each day for three days. Monday we took home 6 reds to 24" with 5 trout and an 18 - 20 lb. Black Tip for Joe and Joey Chamberlain of Live Oak , Fl. We had 8 trout and four reds to 23" for Bill Kelly with his nephew Travis and great nephew Brody Kelly of Nebraska, Tuesday. Wednesday, I had Jeff, Darla and Dustin Dillard of Plant City, Fl. and we had a tough day of trout with only 4 Trout then caught 3 keeper reds and threw back six short reds. Dustin caught his first-ever redfish and Jeff, his Dad, caught and released his largest red to date, a 37 inch brute which ate a live pinfish under a Back Bay Thunder in 3.5 feet of water. Heck of a battle on TrikFish ten pound Game Green line in that shallow water!

The water temps started at 84 degrees, Monday after much rain over the weekend, then were back up to 91 degrees, again, by Wednesday afternoon. Expect to work for the trout unless you can get a breeze over 9 knots or so. 5.5' - 6.5' continues to be my numbers on the trout. All of our fish ate live pinfish under Back Bays.

No other fishing reports as most who are visiting Keaton Beach are scalloping and they continue to do well.

Keaton Beach Fishing Report July 24-25 2015

Reed Horton of Warner Robins, Ga. 7/18/15

Keaton Beach Fishing Report July 24 - 25, 2015
Friday last, I took Stan Bryant with Reed and Josh Horton of Warner Robins out and we had 17 trout and 4 reds.We fished 6.6 - 7 feet of water for the trout and 2.5 - 3.5 ft. for the reds. We used live pinfish rigged on 48" leaders for the trout and live pinfish on 28" leaders for the reds. Water temps in the shallows were up over 92 degrees where the reds were.
Saturday, I had the same crew, less a decent breeze and we only managed 7 trout in 4 hours of incoming tide so we switched to reds earlier and came in with 5 reds. We fished different places for the reds and never caught over two keepers in any one place for the two days. Again we fished live pinfish under Back Bays for all our fish. Reed caught a 25" trout in 6.7 feet of water which was 91.2 degrees HOT.
This report from Mike Johnson of Macon, Ga.
"Fished with my brother Jeff Johnson from Thomasville Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we had our pinfish caught by 7:30. Had our limit of trout by 9:15. And had our 4 gallons of scallops by 11:00. All the trout were caught on pinfish in 6.5 - 7.5 feet with 48" leaders under Back Bay Thunders. Sunday we had our 10 trout limit at 8:30. All on the falling tide on slick water. And we were flying our dive flag Saturday."
The scallopers must have finally trimmed the scallops down a bit at least in the shallower water as reports had those trying shallow not getting limits and those who moved out to 6 - 7 feet finding their limits.

Keaton Beach Fishing Report July 17-18 2015

Keaton Beach Fishing Report July 17 - 18
Well, I got stuck on nine last week as I had Mike Flippo and Mike Coleman of Tifton, Ga. out and we landed nine trout and a 26" red for Mike Coleman. We fished in 3.5 feet to land the red and 6.5 feet of water for the trout. Live pinfish rigged 48" under Back Bay Thunders were the ticket.
Sunday, I had Ben and Rhonda Amerson of Macon, Ga. out and we also caught 9 trout, a 24" red ( Ben's first ever) threw back three short reds and Ben landed a 18-20 pound Blacktip Shark. The trout and Blacktip came out of 6 - 6.5 feet of water while the reds were caught in 2.5 - 3 feet of water. We used live pinfish under Back Bays to land all our fish Sunday.
I took Joyce scalloping Saturday, our first trip of the year, and folks it took less than 30 minutes to bring up our limit of 4 gallons and we never got over 75 feet from the boat. Speaking of boats...Yikes Saturday was busier than the Fourth of July with more than 400 boats out there. I haven't seen that many boats in one place in 6 years that was the year the scallops were in front of Cedar Isle to the channel.
As always if you are going scalloping Fly Your Dive Flags! It's the LAW!

Keaton Beach Fishing Report July 10-11 2015

Keaton Beach Fishing report July 10 -11
Yikes was there a Huge bunch of folks scalloping over the Fourth at Keaton or What? Somewhere over 400 boats were out there according to my reports.
We just had to steer north of everyone and catch our trout and reds elsewhere.
Friday, I had Lee Crowe with Jackie and Tracie White of Greensboro, Ga. out and we caught 13 trout with two over 20" long. Two of our keepers were caught on Assassin's Opening Night 4 inch shads run 38" under the Original Cajun Thunder while the balance were caught using live pinfish rigged 48" under Back Bay Thunders. We fished 5.5 - 6.5 ft. of water for our catch.
Saturday, with no breeze, the trout decided to take the Fourth off; so after 3.5 hours and no trout bite....we tried for reds landing 4 keepers to 26 inches and threw back 9 short reds. We fished small pinfish and spots under Back Bay Thunders in 2.5' -3' of water. We did manage 3 trout right on the high tide including a nice 23" fish for Jackie.
Oh and the scallopers all got their limit.... as far as I can tell.... or at least everyone who I talked to said they got their limit.

Keaton Beach Fishing Report June 26- 27 2015

Keaton Beach Fishing Report June 26-27 2015
Well, scalloping will be the Rage this weekend and from most report scallops have been scouted mostly south of the Beach with more below Piney Point than anywhere from what I heard.
My fishing report comes from Mike Johnson of Macon, Ga. who sent me this:
" Fished Saturday( June 20) and today with Jason Adams from Warner Robins and his daughter Maddie. Had our limit Saturday by 2:30 p.m.. Took a while to find 'em in 6 feet. Sunday, already having caught our pinfish Saturday and knowing where the trout were the day before, we had our limit of 15 before 11:00. Caught all 30 on pinfish fishing in 6+ feet with 48" leaders under our Cajuns.Til next time," Mike Johnson
That's it except to say..
Be careful out there
and FLY YOUR DIVE FLAGS IT's the Law!

Will Scrimpscher, Stan and Tyler Bryant of Warner robins, ga. June 13, 2015

Keaton Beach Fishing report June 19 -20
Well, how about 20 trout before 11:20 a.m. Saturday, June 13 for Stan & Tyler Bryant with Will Shrimpscher of Warner Robins, Ga. we caught one trout for an hour and a half then "Bang" it was on from 9:30 to 11:20 we were doing it. We caught 6 of the 20 on pinfish strips ( "shiner tails") as the locals call them. The largest fish 23.5"( Will) was caught on a strip. Tyler caught the balance (5) on strips rigged 48" under a Back Bay Thunder The rest of our trout ate live pinfish under Back Bays and we were in 5.5 - 6.5 feet of water.
Sunday, we took 5+ hours to catch 9 trout (same crew ) no breeze ...then when the w-i-n-d picked up I moved to 4.5 feet and we got 6 in one drift about 45 minutes. What a difference a day makes. We brought in 15 with two over 20"
Most folks have been having a hard time finding fish; but aren't fishing with live pinfish, the incoming tides or concentrating their efforts on the w-i-n-d and working it when it is up.
I didn't have any reports from others and didn't receive the results from the Nauti-Girls tourney or I would report them.
Meanwhile Good Fishing!

Keaton Beach Fishing Report June 12-13 2015
We had our limits of trout on board One More Cast for 8 straight days ( May 29 through June 6th) despite the afternoon storms and high ( up to 88 degrees) water temperatures in the Gulf. We caught these trout on live pinfish rigged 48" under Back Bay Thunders in 5.6 - 6.5 feet of water. Our bite would not begin until the second half of the incoming tide and was best in the last hour of the rise.
The catfish have been horrific and mixed right in with the trout. We used up over 200 pinfish on one trip last week to land 18 keeper trout.
We had a 25" trout Thursday, June 4th for Benjamin Greenblatt of Columbus, Ga. one of three over 20" that day. This was Benjamin's first ever trip on the Gulf fishing for Speckled Trout and he said " this is a lot more fun than catching catfish in your pond Grandpa" Can we get an "Amen" on that one!
Pete Giddens of Ocilla , Ga. had a 31" fork Cobia and was quite disappointed when I tossed it back to grow up. The Giddens caught their limit of trout Saturday anyway without the cobia.

Keaton Beach Fishing Report June 5,6 2015

Trout are settling into their Hot Summer patterns and responding well to Shrimp, Live pinfish, Gulp and Assassin Soft Plastic rigged under Cajun and Back Bay Thunders. 4.5 - 8 foot depths have produced nice limits of trout this past week.
We have been having Great trips on board One More Cast as evidenced by 11 trout Friday, May 29 with three over 20"; then 15 trout Saturday, for Steven and Steve Cook and Matt Williams of of Dallas, Ga. with four over 22" long! We fished 4.5 - 6.5 feet of water to land these trout with live pinfish rigged 48" under Back Bay Thunders. Sunday, I had John and Leigh Turner of Stone Mountain, Ga. out and we managed 14 keepers with three over 20" again in 4.5 - 6.5 ft of water on live pinfish. Oh, and I caught 5 of those keeper trout on Assassin's "Opening Night" rigged 38" under a Cajun Thunder. Leigh jumped a 60-70 pound Tarpon, the first one we have jumped this year.
Saturday and Sunday, Matt and Luke Chastain of Elijay, Ga. were down from Elijay, Ga. and caught 8 keeper trout on 10 casts right at the high tide in 6 - 8 ft. of water using live shrimp under a Cajun Thunder. The next day, his wife Cindy joined Matt and Luke( son) and the trio had 15 trout using Gulp under a Cajun. Matt said he was using a 48" leader.
Monday, I took James Ragsdale and Jimmy Brandon of Loganville and Conyers, Ga. respectively out and we caught a limit of fifteen trout in 4.5 - 5.5 ft. This pair had a blast and repeated that same effort with 15 trout Tuesday as well.

Greg Farrah of valdosta , with a 24" Speck caught 5/20 15

Keaton Beach Fishing report Memorial Day Weekend
Trout have been much better this week as I suppose the fish are getting acclimated to the HOT water ( we fished 86 degrees today, Wednesday, in 6 feet of water) or we are finally figuring them out.
We had 9 trout Sunday for Steve Dixon and his pal both from Phenix City, Alabama, and then Pete Giddens and Kay Willingham of Ocilla, Ga. had 7 trout Monday; then 10 trout Tuesday, with two over 20 " long each day. We fished 4.5 - 6.5 feet deep most of the time each day. We were fishing with live pinfish under Back Bay Thunders.
Wednesday, Bobby Stalvey, Greg Farrah and Bobby Watsford of Valdosta, Ga. caught 15 trout on board One More Cast with a 24"( Greg from the middle of the boat) Sow and a 22 inch trout also caught. We fished 4.5' - 5.5' for 10 of the trout then fished 3' - 3.5' late in the tide for the balance. The Gulf was 83 degrees in the a.m. and 87 degrees.
Jack Minchey and a friend of Eatonton, Ga. was down Tuesday and had 6 trout with two over 21" long fishing in 7'- 8' ft. of water on live pinfish under Cajun Thunders.
Be safe over the Holiday weekend and be mindful of the crowds of folks who rarely go out on the water but feel obligated to go boating over the Memorial Day weekend.

Keaton Beach Fishing Report May 15-16 2015

I have gotten over 10 emails with folks wanting to know the name of this creature? Well,
The catch of the week is the "Atlantic Puffer" Keep hands Clear! ...he will bite and hurt you!

Well after a less than spectacular showing of trout at the Optimist Club May 2nd, the trout faired better this last week as My One More Cast charters managed 8 trout Thursday with 3 over 21" for David Newsome and Mike Bowden of Phenix City, Alabama. Then we followed that with 9 trout and one flounder Friday, for my other crew from Phenix City. I caught two trout on Assassin Eels on Thursday and one on a Pink Ghost Sea Shad on Friday. The balance of the trout came in on live pinfish fished under Back Bay Thunders in 4 - 4.5 feet of water.
The trout are scattered at best, and rarely do we catch but one or two fish per drift. When a "Bite" occurs you have to be lucky and in the right spot, fishing, when it happens. Friday, we had four trout on one 20 minute drift, rare lately.
Reds have slowed from what we were catching in April with very dark water( due to the high afternoon west w-i-n-d-s up to the north making it hard to manage a redfish.
We have seen more schools of ballyhoo in the last couple of weeks; but it really hasn't made a big difference in the catch.
Meanwhile we will be fishing hard in Keaton Beach!

Keaton Beach Fishing Report 4/24/15

Keaton Beach Fishing report 4/24,25/15
Trout continue to be tough most days while spurts of activity seem to pepper the incoming tides if you are lucky enough to be fishing when those "bites" occur. Live pinfish or shrimp under Back Bays and Cajuns have brought in most of the fish while Gulp bounced or rigged under a Cajun Thunder has caught a few as well.
My charter, last Friday, with Rodger, Morgan and Jerry Braddock of Callahan, Fl. was fantastic as Jerry caught his largest trout ever a 25" trout weighing close to 6 pounds. Morgan( 13 y.o. ) had the most fish and the largest red, 23" while we landed 11 trout with three over 20" and 8 keeper reds. We threw back over 30 short reds. We fished with live pinfish and shrimp under Back Bay Thunders in 2.5 - 3.5 ft. of water.
Saturday, I had Johnny and Nolen Jackson with Blake Odom all of Opp, Alabama, and we brought home 15 trout and 4 reds using live pinfish under Back Bay Thunders from 3.5 - 4.5 feet of water.
Jack Minchey from Eatonton, Ga. and his buddy ( sorry no name) had nine trout Tuesday, using live pinfish under Cajuns in 4 - 4.5 feet of water. The pair had their two over 20".
Don't Forget the Perry Optimist Club's 24th Annual Saltwater Fishing tournament is Saturday, May 2nd.
$50.00 per person entry fee gets you a chance to win a $3000.00 first place largest trout prize, a $1000.00 first place redfish or a $500 first place cobia with other cash and merchandise prizes available.
This is a Charity tournament which raises money for area youth, so try to fish it and come to the weigh-in at Keaton Beach Saturday afternoon. All anglers must be in line at one of three weigh-in sites Keaton, Steinhatchee of Econfina before the 4:00 p.m. deadline.

Keaton Beach Fishing Report April 17 - 18, 2015

Keaton Beach Fishing Report April 17 -18
Trout fishing was tough when they were off and Grand when they were on! Gulf Water temps hit 87 degrees Wednesday and that is so rare for April 8th?
Most folks had a hard time catching any keepers over the weekend and we worked hard on my One More Cast charters as well.
We had nine trout, three Spanish and one redfish Thursday, with a 25.5 inch trout (Mike) topping off the stringer for Jim, Doug and Mike Hardegree of up Atlanta way. We used live pinfish under Back Bays in 3 - 4 ft. to land these fish.
Friday, I had Danny and Tracy Jaramillo with their nine-year-old son Jude, on his first trip for trout in the Gulf. Yep, you know it.. he not only caught his first-ever red, a 25.5" beauty but landed a 28.5 inch trout for the largest trout of the 3 over 21" we took that day. It weighed in at 6.2 pounds! We brought in nine trout and two keeper reds. We threw back several short reds including one 16 incher with 17 spots. ( Jude) All our fish ate live pinfish under Back Bay Thunders from 2.5 -3.5 feet of water. Oh yeah, the Jaramillos are from Valdosta, Ga.
Saturday....? Well the fish took the day off mostly, at least the trout did for me, as we caught only 3 keepers and tossed back a half dozen short reds and a really nice 30" red for Tim Randall of Warner Robins, Ga.. Tim also caught the largest of our trout a 22" fish. We fished everywhere I knew to try and they just didn't want the pinfish as we used shrimp to land what we caught. We had 3 Spanish and a flounder with the three trout all rigged under Back Bay Thunders.
Here is a report from David Bosch of Tifton, Ga who fished Thursday through Sunday.
"Fished with David Stewart, Chris Norman, and Carter Norman of Tifton from 4/08 to 4/11. The bite was never exceptional, but we did manage to pick up some very quality fish. Chris topped our fish with a 24" trout, David picked up a 23", and I picked up a 22". Carter also contributed some quality keepers. Both Friday and Saturday we had our limit of 20+ inch fish. We had our best success in 4 - 4.5' of water. We fished plastics, plugs, pins, and shrimp. Most fish were picked up on pins under Cajuns, but we also had pretty good luck with shrimp when we had them. As I remember, water temps were creeping up into the mid 80's. We also picked up a couple of Spanish, and more puffer and sail cats than I care to deal with."

Don't Forget the Perry Optimist Club's 24th Annual Saltwater Fishing tournament is Saturday, May 2nd.
$50.00 per person entry fee gets you a chance to win a $3000.00 first place largest trout prize, a $1000.00 first place redfish or a $500 first place cobia.

Keaton Beach Fishing Report April 10-11 2015

Keaton Beach Fishing Report April 10 - 11, 2015

Trout fishing is really looking up as several firsts this week indicate Spring is finally catching on on the flats.. We caught our first bluefish ( close to five pounds) our first Jack Crevalle, first Atlantic Sharpnose sharks, and I saw more Ballyhoo on the surface today in one acre than I have seen all year. Peng Chee of Tifton, Ga. was down and caught a Cobia over 40 lbs. also a first that I have heard of. Reports of oodles of baitfish on the surface down south of Piney Point should also be a good sign. Despite the fishing has been tough for a lot of folks lately; this week was producing limits for a few who were getting skunked last week.

My One More Cast trips have been spectacular! We netted 9 trout Saturday, 14 the next day despite 15 - 20 knot w-i-n-d-s for the Rocky Lowe party. Monday, Ben and Keith Golden of Thomasville, Ga. had eleven trout , of which 10 weighed 25 pounds, then 15 trout Tuesday which weighed a whopping 35 pounds for Ellen Williams and Joe Wallace from Vermont; who left 28 degrees on Monday, flew down, and then fished with me in 83 degrees here in Keaton Beach the next day. They were delighted!
Today, I took Mitchell Smith with his son Mason 13 y.o. from Newnan, Ga. out with Jerry Tillia of Hogansville, Ga. and they brought back 12 trout and a 27" red. Our top five trout weighed ...get this...21.3 pounds including a 28" monster for Jerry which weighed 5.6 pounds and a 24" trout for Mason which weighed 5 pounds! We had a Great day and caught them all on live pinfish under Back Bay Thunders in 2.5 - 3.5 feet of water on the rising tide.
I expect fishing to continue to improve through the weekend and with the addition of bait schools showing up the plug fishing should improve. The dead algae up North means the grub and Gulp bouncers should either put on a Cajun Thunder or move south if they insist on bouncing cause the bottom is covered in dead algae up there.
Don't forget to mark your calendars 'cause the first Weekend in May, actually Saturday, May 2nd is the 24th annual Perry Optimist Tournament Club Saltwater Tournament. Visit their website at www.optimistclubperryfl.com for complete details.

Keaton Beach Fishing March 20, 21

Keaton Beach Fishing Report March 20, 21

What a difference a week makes? The Gulf's water temps were 51 last Saturday and this week the water was 72 degrees Sunday 8 days later! Folks are catching trout on just about any thing they are throwing of they get on the fish. Stickbaits, Jerkbaits, Flukes, jig and grubs with Cajuns and live shrimp under Back Bays are all taking fish from 2 - 4 feet.

We caught a limit of trout Sunday, with Capt. Dave Malone on board and we caught them on topwater, hard jerkbaits, soft jerkbaits and live shrimp under Back Bay Thunders.

Tuesday, I had Zack Cook and Nathan Alexander of Woodstock, Ga. and we caught 15 trout on Cotton Cordell gold Redfins and live shrimp under Back Bays. Our best depth was 3 - 3.5 ft. this same crew fished with me again Wednesday and we landed 15 trout; but couldn't catch but three on the Redfins...this time on chrome/blue. Our top two trout were 22.5" and 23" long Wednesday again from 3-3.5 feet of water.

I saw Johnny and Seebold Griggs of Phenix City, Alabama with David Parkman of Columbus, Ga. and they caught their limit Tuesday, with Paul Brown Devils in several colors in 2 feet of water.

This report from Sam Shaw of Homerville, Ga." I had my wife Christa Shaw along with my son Brady (8) and his friend Kyler Everett (9) out today and we got our limit of trout. Saw you catching fish also. We had the most luck just after high tide on live shrimp under Back Bays. Have a great week!!!"

Still haven't seen a pinfish.....but I am sure they are around...the Gulf was 74 degrees when we left the water at 4:30. p.m.

Keaton Beach Fishing Report March 6-7

Keaton Beach Report March 6 - 7  2015

Trout continue to come from the creeks for those seeking the warmest water. That said, they should be sliding on out of them some time this week as we left water temperatures today ( on the flats) at 67-68 degrees? Earlier in the day the Gulf was 63-64 and the creeks were 4 or 5 degrees warmer.

Tuesday, I fished with Capt.Dave Malone and John Hardwick and we managed ten keepers with 7 to 18" from the creeks and 3 outside. We caught our trout on MirrOlure's #17 MiirrOdine in the 808 and the C-eyes #17 in the trout pattern. We also landed quite a few trout on the Paul Brown Devils in the 808 pattern again. Wednesday, the trout seemed to prefer the #93 Devil for Billy Pillow and but continued to eat the "trout" colored MirrOdine as well.

The Griggs boys, down from Phenix City, Alabama, had caught their limit of trout for two days fishing with the Paul Brown Devils in a few colors. They were fishing right on the edge of the grass "up North"

I saw Jack Minchey of Eatonton, Ga. and he had limited out for three days, Monday thru Wednesday using live shrimp "in a creek."

No One I spoke to had caught a redfish this week; but they have to be somewhere ...right?

"Trout fishing in the creeks" continues to be the cry with folks over the weekend finding nothing going on on the flats. Water temps had dropped below 53 degrees in the creeks and they had slowed; while the Gulf dipped below 50 for a day or so.
Saturday, I saw Paul Lader and Stan Hall of Macon, Georgia cleaning their limit of ten trout caught "in a creek" on #52 MirrOlures, Gulp and a suspending "Live Target" bait. Paul reported his bite was better early 8 - 11:00 (Hi tide was 11:12 a.m.) and said things ground to a halt when the water quit moving.
That's all I've got except to say it will be tough with this new cold front; but that should move some trout into the creeks and that bite should resume in three or four days when it warms back up.

Saw some folks while in Mayo at Bass Assassin  who limited out at Dallus Creek, Saturday. They were throwing live shrimp on a light Pro Elite Assassin jighead.

Oh and by the way, I will be working the Assassin booth at the Channel 8 Tampa Outdoor Expo and Boat show in Tampa next weekend February 27, 28 - March 1 at the Tampa Fairgrounds so  come by booth #601 and see me!

Keaton Beach Fishing Report February 13-14 2015

Well, I actually made it out on the water with Capt, Dave Malone, last Friday and we slipped into a creek only to find a boat sitting on the hole we wanted to fish. We eased in near, but not too close and managed to get 5 trout. The Georgia boat had their limit and I am sorry I didn't get their names.

We caught 3 of our trout on MirrOlure's TT series 51M lures, the other two on Gulp. The bite was the last two hours of the incoming tide and was done when the water quit moving. The water temperature in the Gulf was 51 degrees while the warmest in the creek was 55.

Over the weekend several boats had their limits in the creeks; like Cornell and Alice Silveira of Cedar Island. Vince Russo was spotted in a creek up north of Spring Warrior catching trout with a few more boats in that same creek.

This weekend's cold front will certainly not help the flats with water temps already hovering around 50 degrees; but the creek anglers may prefer it cold. I can't say I know enough about that to comment on it? Spring! Hurry Up!

Keaton Beach Fishing Report January 22, 2015

Hey Sorry I haven't written much lately as I haven't been in the water for a month now .Couple of trips to Ga. around Christmas then a week in Raleigh worrking a Show for Precison Tackle has kept me out of the loop.

Not much going on fishing wise unless you are running a airboat or very shallow running skiff in the creeks. The open Gulf has simply dissapointed folks as of late.

Some f my don't use this rports have had fish caught right on thte grass lines ususally following the rains....but those were trout wanting to be in the creeks who were pushed out.

The fish have been caught on MirrOdines and Catch 2000's or Paul Brown Specials ...those which have been caught.

Can't seem to get any reports written up at KBM so it's all on me ..later pat

Keaton Beach Fishing report December 12-13
Well, I suppose you could say we had a last hurrah? the warm 50's and 70's temperatures of last week have been supplanted with 30's and 50's and the water temps have dropped over 13 degrees as of my last info. More than likely by the weekend the Gulf will be below 50 degrees down from 65 we fished in Sunday last.
Last Friday Billy Pillow, Dave Malone and I caught 9 keeper trout and a bunch of shorts on Paul Brown Devils, two on MirrOdines, a few on Bite-A-Bait Fighters, and the balance on Assassin Limetreuse five inch shads.
One report ( sorry I do not have the names ) some folks from Valdosta, who caught two trout over 6 pounds on Saturday in the fog was backed up by the photo of Anna from Sea Hag at Keaton Beach holding them up.
I had Ben and Keith Golden of Thomasville , Ga out Sunday, and we managed one trout in three hours with a negative low tide in the morning, then found short fish ( a slew of them, 30-40 ) in 3 - 4 feet of water; only to move off of them and spend a couple more hours without a keeper, then when the second front of the day went through the trout turned on? Weird doesn't cover it. The air temperature dropped ten or more degrees and the tide changed and started out and we came in with our 15 trout in spite of the lousy conditions and the cold. We fished in 3 - 3.5 feet of water with live shrimp under Back Bay Thunders to catch these trout in 65.5 degrees of water.
I don't see much improvement for the weekend with forecasts of low 30's each day, but if you do go, look to fish very slow and be in or near a creek.
